Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37W

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Built around the same basic platform as the previous Lumix FX35, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37 features a 10.1 megapixel sensor and a new 5x, 25-125mm Leica zoom lens. An auto-exposure pocket camera, the FX37 sports an implementation of Panasonic’s very smooth and savvy Intelligent Auto system, which automatically detects the type of scene in front of the lens and adjusts accordingly.

Panasonic claims the pocket-friendly FX37 is good for more than 300 shots on a single charge of its slim li-ion pack; our experience with the camera suggests that 200 is probably a more reasonable average number for shooting outdoors with the screen gained up, or where lots of flash is required.

Here’s a shocker: the FX37 is, as best we can tell, physically identical to the FX35. Panasonic tends to be pretty conservative in restyling its cameras anyway, and with much of the same hardware (same sensor, same LCD, same processor) under the hood and on the back panel, it makes sense that there was really no need for a fundamental overhaul.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7 is not much different from the previosu Panasonic models like the DMC-LZ5. While both haev almost the same features, the LZ7 is a bith bulky but with a higher 7.2 megapixel resolution. The LZ7 boasts of new features found in other top end compact cameras like Optical Image Stabilization and blur warning which makes sure you get clear and crisp photos.

One of the most common problems when shooting photos is bad lighting and movement of the subject and the High Sensitivity mode of the DMC-LZ7 which provides up to 3,200 ISO will help you get better shots despite these conditions.

Aside from the high pixel resolution you also get a 6x optical zoom lens, 4x digital zoom and a 9x Extended Optical Zoom which lowers the resolution to 3 megapixel so you minimize loss of quality.

What is nice about the LZ7 is the Easy Zoom feature which provides a shortcut to the main zoom settings. By just pressing the button next to the shutter button, you can choose one zoom setting from another. It has a 2.5 inch LCD monitor for previews, with a high angle option that is ideal for getting overhead shots when in a crowded place.
