Nikon Coolpix P5000

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The Nikon Coolpix P5000 is a lot more expensive than the Nikon Coolpix P5100 at a starting price of $730. This, despite a lower pixel resolution of only 10 megapixels compared to the P5100’s 12.1 MP. However, the Nikon Coolpix comes with a lot of whistles that can compete with the unchallenged Canon A640.

This camera has several attractive features for the hobbyist who may want to take his photography to a new level. It boasts of the lens-shift vibration which provides image stabilization to the camera to reduce blurs caused by camera motion. It is also capable of getting good shots even under low lights.

The Coolpix P5000 comes with a 3.5x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. An auto and manual focus and exposure and a 2.5-inch LCD display. It also allows you to capture video with sound and has a 26MB Secure Digital Storage.

Kodak EasyShare M863

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The Kodak EasyShare M863 is a small but powerful camera measuring 91×57x21mm and weighing only 115 grams without battery and the Memory Card so you can easily slid it in your pocket for those spur of the moment trips or photo shoots.

This is an 8.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and takes crisp and clear shots in JPEG format so you can easily download them to your computers or your online storage sites. It has a 2.7 inch LCD display so you can easily preview your shots and box in your subjects. Capturing memorable moments live is also possible with the camera’s VGA movie mode.

The camera has preset shooting modes for those hard-to-get shots involving close-ups, night shots, fireworks, children, backlight, sports, panorama and the likes. The 16MB internal memory is quite short though but you can upgrade with a 2.0MB Memory Card for more storage.

Nikon Coolpix P5100 Point And Shoot Camera

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The Nikon Coolpix P5100 is a point and shoot camera which any beginning photographer would be delighted to have considering its manual and automatic controls. It’s really a simple camera that can provide your basic photography needs easily and efficiently.

The Coolpix 5100 has 12.1 megapixels and a 3.5x optical zoom which just matches the resolution of the camera so you can expect clearer shots. This is made possible by the optical image stabilization which will reduce camera blurs. It also has a movie mode that allows you to capture short videos with sound.

The problem with this camera is the quality of its LCD display when exposed to the sun. When you encounter that just use the optical viewfinder for previewing your shots or getting your subjects into focus.

The camera has a 52MB internal memory but you can opt for the SD Memory Card for extra storage.

At a starting price of $270, this Nikon digital camera is a cheap camera but do not really expect to get great photos or a camera with a lot of whistles. But it’s a good start .

Sony Alpha 200

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

If you’re new to the DSLR category then try the A200, Sony’s entry-level digital camera. This is a 10 megapixel resolution camera that’s great start for those who want to take their photography to a new level.

The Sony Alpha 200 can achieve maximum results up to an ISO 800. A higher ISO will make the quality of your image suffer. However you can avoid using a high ISO by activating the Alpha 200’s SuperSteady Shot mode.

This entry level DSLR camera is priced reasonably but the quality does not suffer. This is in fact a good follow up if not a replacement to the Alpha 100 which was introduced when Sony first entered the DSLR market before.
